China Care Programs China Care has developed a very unique model of programs designed to truly change the lives of children living in orphanages. We seek to influence the care of as many children as possible, stretching the impact of each dollar donated. We do not try to separate ourselves from the systems set up by the government to care for orphans. Instead, we work within those systems, alongside the Chinese orphanages in caring for children. Our cooperation with the local orphanages ensures a better future for ALL orphans who enter these institutions. Our
programs that bridge the US and China: Our
programs in China include: The China Care Model China Care’s unique model begins by accepting the weakest, most at-risk children from the orphanages with whom we cooperate. These are babies with moderate to life-threatening birth defects, and other infants who require a high level of skilled care during their early weeks and months. These children are brought out of the local orphanage and cared for in a local China Care Children's Home. Care is provided by our trained staff of nannies and care supervisors who are there to meet each baby’s physical, emotional and psychological needs. Once a child’s medical condition and treatment options have been thoroughly evaluated China Care's Medical Program staff begin the process of obtaining the medical care needed to give each child the best possible chance for a normal, healthy life. After a child has completed his medical treatment, he is cleared for foster care by the Medical Program staff. A long term care plan is drawn up and any follow-up medical treatment (such as additional surgeries or examinations) is scheduled at this time. China Care's Foster Program places each child in a long term foster family once his medical treatment is completed and his situation is stable. When a suitable foster family is matched with a specific child, and they are given time to review the child’s long term care plan. They also undergo a basic training course in caring for children with special needs. It is not uncommon for these foster parents to fall so in love with their child that they apply to the local government authorities for a permanent legal adoption. While we care for the most at-risk orphans in our own Children's Homes, we also offer support to the orphans who remain in the local orphanage. China Care's Orphanage Support Program seeks to understand the particular needs of each individual orphanage. We provide renovations, foster care funding, infant formula, staff training, donated items and other support as needed to increase the quality of care for the orphans who remain in the local orphanage. In every aspect of our support for orphans we encourage volunteers to join the China Care Volunteer Program and participate in our work. Volunteers are welcome to live and work in our Children's Homes. Our Group Educational Foster Homes provide a special opportunity to work with older children. Skilled volunteers are especially needed to help in our Medical Program. Volunteers are encouraged to accompany our staff on regular visits to foster families, and volunteering in the local Chinese orphanages can sometimes be arranged as well. China Care's Financial Aid Program for adopting families helps to facilitate the adoption of special needs children into permanent, loving families. China Care provides grants and/or low interest loans to qualifying families who are adopting an orphan who might otherwise remain forgotten in an orphanage because of a simple, often correctable medical condition.
